John Agnew

John N. Agnew was born in 1952 in Dayton, Ohio. Early dreams of a career in herpetology gradually changed into a career as a museum artist, exhibit designer and scientific illustrator, and now as an award-winning fine artist specializing in natural history art. For the last twenty years he has designed exhibits, painted murals and produced illustrations for museums and zoos around the country and as far away as Moscow. Since moving back to Cincinnati in the early 80's, John has produced over 20,000 square feet of murals and diorama paintings for the Cincinnati Zoo and the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History.

John has been painting wildlife and landscapes since he was a teenager, but has only recently pursued wildlife art in a serious way. In 1998 he was juried into the Society of Animal Artists, and his work has toured with their annual show ever since. He has also had works selected for the Arts For the Parks show, sponsored by the National Parks Academy of the Arts, in 1998, 1999, and 2000. In the spring of 2001, North Light Books has scheduled the publication of his book, "Painting The Secret World of Nature," which will reveal many of his techniques and materials, and will feature many of his paintings
